Regarding the Sheet Packing by Category task - you are not missing anything. The way the task works is generic and has limitations on how it handles elements within a bundle. Here are some ideas that could address this in a future release:

• update task to allow multiple categories, so that the user can setup rules for the categories
• new Sheet Packing by Element task that allows any element to be sent over regardless of the category
• We have the View Grouping by Parameter Values for Sheet Placement feature in our backlog that will allow sheet packing to work with a group of elements - group can be defined by any criteria, similar to filters. This will be released in the future.

For the view overflow, with Glyph Version 1.0 we introduced a way to generate new sheets, instead of placing the view below the sheet:

2. Creates a sheet by room or category, apply the views of the single room or category to that sheet. Then generate a new sheet again for the next room or category. Even if the previous sheet was not full.

We have the Sheet View Cluster Editor & Packing feature in our backlog that will allow the grouping of views to span multiple sheet or a single sheet. For example, multiple rooms with the related elevations can be placed on the same sheet. This will be released in the future.

5. View Grouping by Parameter Values for Sheet Placement

Background: The view grouping functionality keeps certain views together when they are placed onto a sheet. For example, an enlarged restroom floor plan and the related elevations all originate from the same room element, therefore those views are grouped. When packing a sheet, we want to keep the groups onto the same sheet, and not split a group across multiple sheets if possible. So, if there are three restroom with related plans & elevations, and not all the views would fit on one sheet, place only two restrooms and their views on one sheet, and the third restroom on a new sheet. We also have the option to set one view group per sheet, where three groups would produce three sheets.

Current Limitation: Currently a group of views is defined by how the views are generated in a bundle, and that information is forwarded to the sheet placement task within the bundle. This is limiting, as view groups can only be generated when in a bundle with the setting to accept elements from previous tasks when sheet packing. When a sheet packing task is not in a bundle, users cannot place views on sheets with the grouping functionality (single group per sheet vs multiple).

This features has two parts. One, is to have the ability of making these groups by parsing the parameter values of the views. Two, view creation tasks can write parameter data to the views generated from the original element’s parameters.

This feature allows users to group views for sheet packing when not using the task in a bundle. It also enables grouping by any parameter value that is shared across the views. For example, users can group views by: department, level, zone and any other parameter that further define the views.

6. Sheet View Cluster Editor & Packing

Extend the sheet packing task to account for relationships between views in a more customizable fashion. Views that share a specific relationship would then be clustered into a composite view and placed onto the sheet within the specified sheet zone.

Expand the sheet schema editor to create layouts for a cluster of views. Unlike the sheet drawing area, this view cluster varies in size depending on the number of views in the cluster and the view sizes. The cluster would then act as a single view when it’s being placed in the sheet zones.

This feature enables sheet packing for many additional scenarios: stair tower plans and sections cluster, elevator plans and sections cluster, wall sections with details cluster, view and mini schedule cluster for legends, curtain wall elevation with related plans and sections cluster.
