We have purchased a floating licence of Veras to replace our named user subscription. The new floating licence seems to be visible and available on our licence server, which is running the latest version 6.2.2, and I have deployed the latest version of Veras to all computers.
We have also invited our users to create Chaos accounts, and the floating licence is assigned to the admin, with Floating Licence Sharing enabled in the online portal.
However, when our users open Veras and log in, it does not show that the floating licence is in use. What are we missing here?
Are each of the user’s accounts are added to the floating license pool in the admin portal?
There have been a couple other users reporting license issues, so I pinged our internal support chat to see if there is an outage.
Sorry I can’t be much direct help, because all licensing issues are handled by the online support ticket team. You can open a ticket with them here Submit a request – Chaos Help Center
Yes, all our users are added to the portal. Please re-read my post. The floating licence is not shown as in-use on the licence server, neither is there any indication that one user is licenced vs anyone else that is logged into Veras at the same time.
If I log a ticket with Chaos, I am told to deal with EvolveLab instead, who redirect me to post here, and then no-one from either team responds or provides a solution. We are long term Chaos customers and are unable to get support for the product we have purchased.
I apologize for the runaround between support teams - that shouldn’t happen and we’re working to improve that coordination.
The “in use” column doesn’t currently work for EvolveLAB apps. Chaos is working on removing this column for our apps, but it’s not implemented yet. I believe things like this happened because after being acquired by Chaos we prioritized combining and getting the licensing system functional quickly, which left some gaps like the issue you’ve identified here.
Bottom line: There’s currently no way to see active floating license usage for EL apps. When a user tried to log in, if they are able to get in and don’t see the “no floating seats available” errors, that means there were/are seats available.
We understand the necessity of getting this fixed, as there’s various reasons an account owner may need to see how many seats are available, and/or who is currently using those seats.
I do have an internal workaround to check license usage and I’m developing a user-accessible version. I’ll send you a private message with more info, but as a workaround for now, if you ever need to know who’s using your EL floating seats you can reach out to me and I can send you the current status. Far from perfect I know, but I hope it will help somewhat in the interim.
Thanks for your patience as we work on a proper solution for this.
Another quick update - I just heard from the Chaos licensing team, and they said they are going to prioritize this, so hopefully we’ll get it updated soon!
