Is it Possible to Dimension Windows in an Elevation View?

Is it possible to dimension windows in an elevation view using the “dimension views by category” workflow? One of the sectors of my company does multifamily projects and they often have a combination of curtain walls storefront and windows in their projects. I am able to make elevations for all of those types and place them on sheets and tag them but I am only able to dimension the curtain walls and store fronts.

When trying to set up a workflow for dimensioning windows I see the options to dimension to center lines or rough openings. It doesn’t appear that the rough opening option works in elevations although it works fine in plan views.

Is this currently not possible with glyph? And would it be possible to add the ability to dimension a window based on family reference planes similar to how Casework families are set up - where the left right top and bottom reference planes would define the rough opening size?

@Elliottk, you should be able to dimension windows in plan view (see the GIF below). Are you seeing any errors in the status report?

Thanks for the quick reply. The only difference I can tell from this animation versus what I was trying to do is that my window elevations did not contain the wall that they were hosted to. Typically for our window and storefront elevation sheets We place individual elevations for each unique window type and then we dimension those. Our view templates for those views are also set up where the exterior wall is turned off so we get a clean window elevation only.

I’m guessing that glyph requires the wall to be present in order for the windows to be dimensioned, is that right?

That’s correct. Glyph requires the wall to be turned on in order to be dimensioned. I’ve added to our backlog the possibility of creating those dimensions without needing a wall.

As always, thank you very much for your feedback!
